I initially started a bachelor’s in Biochemistry before reorienting myself towards a more molecular path which then got me to change my bachelor’s to Biology as I did not enjoy the chemistry aspect of my previous program. This is what brought me to discover a love of plants and animals. In the fall 2019, I picked up a stats class and enjoyed every bit of it which led me to take on the more advanced stat class throughout my bachelor. And here I am now doing a biostatistics-oriented master’s in Dr. Pedersen’s lab. My project focuses on methods of spatial biomass estimation. To this end, I am investigating the performance of the Ogmap model alongside the novel gam-based spatial surplus production model. My focus during this project will be to investigate the uncertainty associated with these methods of producing biomass estimates. The goal of this research is to improve the understanding of how to estimate and monitor spatially structured populations. I look forward to working with this fantastic team and exploring the wonderful world of Ecology!
